- What are sizes of withdrawn samples ?
They are commonly between 0.01 to 1 mg.

- How is repeatability of sample sizes ?
It is better than 10 % even in worst cases. In most cases repeatability of sample size is not an important point (it can be preferable to make sure that the measured compositions do not depend on the sample size), ROLSITM offers a very good repeatability of determined compositions (see paper published in Analusis in 2000).

- Which is the sampling rate ?
It is with the discretion of the user, but it should be made sure that time necessary to each analysis is respected to avoid the overlapping of peaks for GC analyses. For a simple mixture one can have sampling rates every 3 minutes while for difficult separations more than 100 components one hour of analysis can be necessary... ...

- Which are the ROLSITM materials in contact with the samples ?
Stainless steel (316 SS) and vespel for classical models. Upon special order 316 SS can be replaced by allied titanium, hastelloy, etc....)

- How much time is necessary between the extraction of a sample and the beginning of the corresponding analysis ?
It depends on the length of the transfer line (ROLSITM towards GC) and on the flow rate of the GC carrier gas, generally few seconds are necessary. For example for a 1/16” line of 1 m length and a flow rate of 20 cc/min the transfer time of the sample between the exit of ROLSITM and the entry of column GC is less than 1.5 second.

- Does the ROLSITM sampler have capacities of cooling ? of heating ?
It has capacities of heating only (the heating device is used either to vaporize the liquid samples or to avoid condensing high temperature extracted vapors).

- Can the sampled medium contain suspended particles (crystals, aggregates) and if so, which is their maximum diameter ?
Yes the sampled medium can contain suspended particles, but to avoid any problem and prevent quick damages of both the ROLSITM and the GC circuit, it is advised to install a filter at the entry of the capillary.

- Can one use ROLSITM to sample diphasic media like foams or emulsions ?
With regard to ROLSITM, there is strictly no problem.

- Can automation be synchronized with other automats ?
YES: please see the examples of installation.

- Does the sampler present intrinsic safety ?
Yes, via the return spring. ROLSITM is normally closed if not power supplied.

- Which are the electrical characteristics of the electromagnet ?
ROLSITM must power supplied by a (24 Volts - 14 Watts) electrical current.

- Is ROLSITM approved Atex ? (cf Directives ATEX 1999/92/CE and 94/9/CE)
Approval is current.
